Origin of arrow shape is literally related to ancient “Arrow”. Ancient people used arrows in hunting and combat. Arrow has characteristic of flying linearly, showing that its flight direction is toward target. Shape and directionality of this arrow were later abstracted as symbol showing direction, developed into shape of arrow seen today.
