Reading the scale, analog reliability. “Retro Thermometer” line art material
This is an icon drawn with simple line art of an old-fashioned analog thermometer characterized by a glass tube and a sphere at the bottom (temperature sensing part). In today’s world where digital display thermometers are widespread, this classic shape showing temperature with physical scales still holds a strong sense of reliability and persuasiveness as a symbol of “accurate measurement” and “medical/science.” It’s a motif that also looks great as a single point of retro design.
Specific Usage Scenes and Suggested Applications
This material is useful in any scene where you want to convey a change in temperature, from the UI of health management apps to seasonal weather information.
- For the “Body Temperature Record” icon in health management apps and healthcare sites: As an icon for forms to input daily body temperature or menus to check health conditions. Illustrations of digital thermometers are also good, but using this analog line art can produce a serious impression of “managing health properly” and reliability as a medical device. Because it’s line art, it doesn’t clash with other UI designs in the app.
- For “Fever” eye-catchers in articles about colds and influenza: As an illustration when explaining symptoms and remedies for fever in blogs and medical columns. It conveys at a glance the anxious feeling of “Do I have a fever?” or the state of poor physical condition without using words. If you apply processing to paint the mercury column part red, it also becomes a visual emphasizing the danger of a “high fever.”
- For displaying “Temperature/Extremely Hot Day” in weather information and news: As heading decoration for “Today’s highest temperature” or “Heatstroke warning alert” on weather forecast websites and news articles. Combined with a sun icon, it can express the intense heat of summer, or combined with a snowflake, a winter cold wave, functioning as a visual sign conveying the changing of seasons.
- For illustrations of “Laboratory Equipment” in science teaching materials and science columns: As part of diagrams explaining experimental procedures and how to use equipment on educational websites and teaching material prints. Combined with line drawings of other laboratory equipment like beakers and flasks, you can create a unified learning content.
- As a “Decorative Accent” for retro/antique style designs: As decorative parts emphasizing a nostalgic atmosphere on the menus of cafes themed around Showa retro or websites of vintage general stores. Just placing this line drawing on a textured background of old paper completes a tasteful classic design.
Editing Tips and the Merits of the EPS Format
Completely free for both commercial and personal use. Along with versatile PNG and SVG data, we have also prepared an EPS (vector) file that allows you to freely customize the height of the mercury column and the color of the lines.
By utilizing the EPS format (vector data), you can manipulate the temperature display freely. Using software like Adobe Illustrator, you can change the height of the mercury (liquid) line inside the central tube to express various states such as “normal temperature,” “slight fever,” or “high fever.”
Also, it is easy to color according to the application, such as painting the mercury part “red” to make it look like a clinical thermometer, or painting it “blue” to make it look like a general thermometer.
